Stercorarius pomarinus
28 June Wainright, Alaska
noted but there were infrequent.
In walking about in the tundra,
we were never attacked by jaegers,
and it was my impression that
jaegers were genuinely scarce (at
least compared to Barrow).
29 June Barrow, Alaska
Rex Pieper + Dr. [illegible] reported seeing
a jaeger take a phalarope egg.
Apparently they saw the bird at
the nest, and after scaring it
off, they found that the egg had
been punctured but the bird had been
scared away before he had taken the
contents. Jaegers were seen attacking
the owls at West 3+2 this morning.
On several occasions, it seemed that
actual physical contact was made.

The nest in front? The warren at the
NW corner? The plot has one egg
which is pipping (at 1600). Carson reports
that he saw a chick near the south
end. I observed this offspring that
must be at least 2 or 3 days old
(Still in down plumage, but out
wandering around).
