Helmer,R 1957 Stercorarius pomarinus 13. 18 July Barrow, Alaska and 1 pipping egg. This nest had the same general location as the other two that is atop a mound which in this case was very slight. Also this one had more grass and was in the middle of an open field about 180 yards wide and 4-500 yards long. It was located about 50 yards from some polygons which were much higher than the nest mound. 19 July Barrow, Alaska. At 1000, the eggs in nest #2 were just beginning to crack. Both young were present in #3 and were quite active. The Adults in #1 are very "scary". They will leave the nest when a person is approaching for down the road and will not return for considerably longer time afterwards. At least 15 to 20 other foragers were seen between 14th Ave and Stena-vile. They could be seen almost anywhere. 20 July Barrow, Alaska. Nest #1 at 0900 was still pipping and was fended in with 1'x30' Seering. Nest #3 was checked and the young could not be found. The
