Holmes, P. 1959 Stercorarius pomarinus 6. 14 June Barrow, Alaska near (4 feet away) a sitting bird. The intruder was quickly chased on the ground for about 10 feet before it took off and flew to the eastward. 15 June Barrow, Alaska Ten birds seen sitting in drum area and adjoining tundra. There seemed to be very little activity as most of the birds were standing or sitting on the ground. A few were noted flying. Three Glaucous Gulls were flying around these jaegers and oices. I would travel to close and the jaeger would fly off to another mound. During the afternoon, 8 birds were seen sitting on the tundra, and an occasional one would get up fly around and then settle down. One of these birds was seen to catch a lemming and fly with it in its beak to a small tussock. Immediately, three other jaegers converged on this bird.
