Holmes,R. 1959 Stercorarius pomarinus 14 june Barrow, Alaska Of the pair. Sometimes when three birds were flying together there would be no conflict. Then all of a sudden, two of the birds would turn and chase the third until finally they stopped the attack and the two pursuers took off by themselves. One bird was seen with a lemming in its mouth, and it was immediately joined by two other birds. After a chase for 30 yards or so, the bird with the grey and one of the others turned on the third bird and drove it off. At this time the two remaining birds landed over a hill and the rest was not observed. Several seconds later, however, both birds were seen standing in the snow about 2 feet apart. Apparently the lemming had not been consumed. 2000. About 15 birds seen in the hummocks and surrounding furnace. Ten were seen at one time sitting on the ground. The other two were flying here and there. No aggressiveness ever seen, except when one individual landed
