Holmes, R. 1959 Stercorarius pomarinus 3 12 June Barrow, Alaska. In the above mentioned description 1 the mating display. The male was also seen to cock its tail at the same time the wings were raised. It was also cocked during the strutting performance. 13 June Barrow, Alaska One seen in and around Drum area. It was noted sitting on the tundra in a small patch of dried grass. Upon being approached too closely it stood up and several seconds later took flight. It then landed about 50 yards away and remained standing in that location for about 10 minutes. When it flew off we settled about 200 yards away, It remained attentive with neck held erect and turning from side to side - both while standing and sitting.
