Phalaropus fulicarius
3 June Barrow, Alaska
2 pair seen on small ponds along the west
shore of Elsa Lagoon. Both individuals were feeding
actively with no apparent courtship occurring.
5 June - 1 pr. seen near Elsa Lagoon - more elsewhere
7 June 2-3 pairs seen S.O. of Britton's Area today.
In one case 2 99's were fighting over a 8 - much
flying was going on, chasing both + forth.
8 June Many birds seen - on ponds near both +
Britton's Areas.
9 June Numerous individuals pairs flying around Footprint
+ near Shroaark.
11 June - Abundant in Central Marsh - where most birds
appear to be paired. Very little activity
was seen on the ridge (bird - FAP photo). One
& collected body was 4km away.
17 June Two nests found today. One on the east
Slope (The BR - on F.A.P.'s plot - it was
on a dry path) / The ridge - it was
surrounded by drooping grass. It
was quite well lined with grass
& sedge - The 2nd nest was found
next to Trophine III B - on a slight
polygon top - where it was well
covered with grass. After
a 20 99's were observed in Central
Marsh, Also large numbers of pairs
were still seen together in the fumera.
