All of these birds were molting; the body was whitish while the top of the head was bluish-grey. The reddish color The body was still evident. in some individuals. Apparently These are immature birds and are now the mute common. 9 August Barrow, Alaska 80-100 seen - Footprint Lake - pretty immatures 11 August PitH Point, Alaska About 15 immatures on a dry pond with 2 males. I 13 August PitH Point, Alaska 6 immature birds were seen today, scattered over the tundra in the small pools, etc. 15 August PitH Point, Alaska 2 immatures seen, and I was caught in trayline T4. 19 August Barrow, Alaska About 15 were present at Footprint Lake; there were all immatures. Flotile of 100-150 were observed
