Dr. Zweifel 1953 Journal 7mi WSW Yaa Adjuntas, 8500', Durango, Mexico July 9 This morning was sunny and warm, the clouds not arriving until early afternoon. I collected a rattlesnake (C. pricei), 11 Eumeces brevipinos and a Phrynosoma orbiculare. Evidently the warm weather does a lot to stimulate reptile activity. Yesterday only two skinks were collected. In the afternoon I shot a white-breasted nuthatch and a chipmunk. The chipmunk was 35' up on the trunk of an oak tree. Min temp 49°F, max 73°, Rain in afternoon July 10 Last night Bill and I set out two short traplines, 12 and 10 Museum Specials respectively, and caught only Peromyscus. His line was on a rocky logged hillside, mine on a similar but unlogged and rather lush slope leading down to a stream. A single gopher trap was unsprung. Shot a flycatcher (2444) which was calling from the top of a pine tree in the afternoon. Robins are as common here as at the El Vangel Camp. I flushed or off a nest containing three eggs. This was about 7' up in a small pine tree. Minimum temp. 52°F, max. 68°F. Rain in afternoon and continuous showers on into the evening, the first time it has rained at night since we've been in the mountains.
