R. Zweifel 1953 Crotalus pricei 7 mi. SW El Vegel (Taquinta) 2800', Chihuahua, Mexico June 29 2275 RZ A small rattler, well battered, was brought in this afternoon by one of the Mexicans. We were informed that it had bitten a muchacho this morning. In the evening the bitten young man appeared together with a dozen others, Indians (as himself) and Mexicans. (The purpose of the visit was to sing and make merry - not to show off the foot which was bitten). The man had a tourniquet about his calf, the bite having been given on the upper surface of the foot near the little toe. Some swelling was evident but no discoloration was seen. I gathered that some treatment had been given at El Vegel. Considering the small size of the snake and the tough, gums-enamated foot bitten, probably little venom was injected. [illegible] July 1 The indian was back again tonight, looking none the worse for his bite. 2342 RZ July 4 A small individual found coiled beneath a 9" diameter log on dry soil in level, open yellow pine forest.
