Sceloporus jarovi
7 mi. SW El Vergel (Jagunite) 7800', Chihuahua, Mexico
2264-71, 2256, 2316 Hz.
July 4
This is by far the most abundant lizard here.
They are relatively unrestricted ecologically, being found
on rocky cliffs, boulder strewn hillsides and as fallen
logs. The ecologic overlap with S. poinsetti noted
near Piedrales (see species account for that form, June 27)
is again evident here. The S. poinsetti restrict them-
selves to rocky situations (cliffs, boulder strewn
hillsides, rock retaining walls). S. jarovi and S.
poinsetti were seen in the same rocky outcrop
within inches of one another.
S. jarovi is less likely to be found on logs and
stumps in level areas of the forest where S. grammicus
is common, but is more often seen on slopes.
