R Zweifel 1953 Heloporus poinaetti 1/6 mi W Pedernales, Chihuahua, Mexico 2248-50 RZ June 27 These lizards were found in cracks between the bricks of an abandoned adobe building in which we camped. Several dried carcasses of this species were also found in cracks. An S. poinaetti and a S. garrovi were seen to hide in cracks only 18" apart on an adobe wall, in interesting ecologic overlap between these two similar species. (These two were captured, so identification can be confirmed). This is in a hilly area in the overgrazed pinon- oak association, elevation around 6000'. A large gravid ? taken here has rather brilliant coloration - see drawing on next page. 14 mi by road W Ojito, Durango, in Chihuahua 2253 RZ and 16 mi by road NE El Tepe (Tegunte), Chihuahua 2254-5 RZ June 28 Several individuals were seen perched atop rocks in the oak scrub and pinon-oak forest, most in areas where there were many scattered rocks averaging 1'm diameter. I have in the past considered this lizard as solely a crervo-dweller, but it is certainly not confined to that habitat here. A large ? possessed no orange ventrally.
