Sceloporus grammicus
7 mi. SW El Vergel (Jaguita) 7800', Chihuahua, Mexico
2304-2315 RZ
July 1
Abundant in the pine forest. Usually seen on
fallen logs, log fences and stumps. Most often
take refuge under loose bark.
The male possesses paired blue ventral patches edged
medially with black. This black edging is diffusely represented
in the female, the rest of the venter being orange-brown.
The same orange-brown coloration is present on the male ventral
surface areas not occupied by the blue and black.
The throat in both sexes is gray with many 1mm diameter
light spots, white in the female, blue in the male.

These lizards seem to be restricted to logs and
stumps in level areas in the forest, where they are
abundant. I have seen none on the rockier slopes.
