R. Zweifel 1953 Hyla eximia 6 mi. WSW Las Adjuntas, 8500', Durango, Mexico 2382-8 R2 July 8 At least two chous of these frogs were heard near our camp tonight, where none had been heard last night. Perhaps this afternoon's heavy rains had an important part in initiating the activity. One chorus was located in the canyon bottom by the stream. No frogs were calling from the stream itself, but rather they were located in water filled depressions made by the trampling of livestock near the stream border. Steeps on the hillside made the region rather marshy. Another chorus was located in a muddy pool by the roadside, the largest pool being some 20' in diameter. Those frogs seen were calling from the edge of the pool, partly in the water. The call is reminiscent of that of Hyla regilla, by lacks the drayglebic quality common to that species. 2 mi NE La Ciudad, 6000', Durango, Mexico 2449-70 R2 July 11 Large, grassy meadow in pine forest. Many frogs calling on the early afternoon from the grass - not in water.
