Mr. Zweifel 1953 Journal En route from Adrinas camp to Magellan' July 12 of Guerrero. Just past this place we were struck by the heaviest downpour I have ever experienced, and on one of the poorest stretches of road. Magellan' was reached in the early evening, and we camped about sunset in the thorn forest north of town. All in all, the road over the mountain to Magellan' is not nearly as bad as painted in the AAA booklet "(Do not attempt this road)", and the really spectacular scenery more than makes up for the inconveniences of slow travel. The roadbed is excellent - it has to be to withstand the immense amount of water it receives. The chief dangers to the motorist lie in the continual rain of dirt and rocks from the cliff above, and the danger of meeting one of the numerous busses on a blind curve in the fog (the Durango - Magellan' route has better bus service than Berkeley).
