I. Zweifel 201 1953 Triturus torosus Trabuco Guard Station, Trabuco Canyon, 1500', Orange County, Calif. August 16 Relatively little stream flow, mostly disconnected pools. Larvae were present in the pools, and small transformed individuals under rocks by the water. I was shown an adult Triturus by some Boy Scouts; they said adults were common in the pools, but I was unable to find any. After collecting adult Triturus in Boulder Creek, San Diego Co., in August, I had assumed that they waited for the summer rains in order to leave the water. At least one or two heavy rains are a regular summer occurrence in the Cuyama/ca region. But such conditions do not obtain in the Santa Anas. Perhaps the heavy summer fogs moisten the region sufficiently to permit the adults to leave the water.
