After two days of fairly good weather, we
were awakened at dawn this morning by
rain. No further collecting was carried on
in the vicinity of the camp, although a
few stops were made on the lower Kern
canyon on the way out. We obtained
Bathochorus and Eumeces gilberti, and Keith
got a Diadegma at Cow Flat Creek.
Keith had made some arrangements with
the Tajon Ranch people to collect on the ranch,
so we drove to the ranch.
At the ranch office it was suggested that
we try Tunia Canyon. We took the dirt
(Grat present, mud) road to the mouth
of Tunia Canyon and linked up the canyon.
Our collecting, during intermittent rain,
yielded 20 Eumeces gilberti and 7 Uta
stansburiana, all found beneath rocks.
The shaded canyon wall has valley oaks
and blue oaks in open stand oak grove.
Driving back down the road we were
struck by two very heavy thundershowers
and proceeded to get stuck in the mud.
We got out with the aid of wood on,
too small tire chains. About sundown,
while working on the mudd truck, I
found a Geophilus celling. Keith found
one on the road.
Being thoroughly soaked and mud-
covered, we treated ourselves to a Hotel
