At about sundown on a day marked by intermittent showers and two heavy thunder-
shower, the first spadefoot was heard calling.
Som after a ? was found on the road.
We returned about 10:30 PM and found
the toads calling with Hyla in a reservoir
and in a pond on a field. This is on the
grassy plain near the foot of the Tehachapi
Mountains.
Three male spadefoots were found crunched on
the bottom of the pond in which they had
been calling. Large tadpoles were present
in the pond - four were collected. These
proved to be Bufo brevis tads.
