R. Zweifel 230 Saphirique hammondi Tynd Ranch, 61/2 mi. E Whale Ridge, Kern Co., Calif. 5124-26 RZ April 27, 1953 At about sundown on a day marked by intermittent showers and two heavy thunder- shower, the first spadefoot was heard calling. Som after a ? was found on the road. We returned about 10:30 PM and found the toads calling with Hyla in a reservoir and in a pond on a field. This is on the grassy plain near the foot of the Tehachapi Mountains. Three male spadefoots were found crunched on the bottom of the pond in which they had been calling. Large tadpoles were present in the pond - four were collected. These proved to be Bufo brevis tads.
