R. Zweifel 223 Rana sierrae Sage Hen Ck, Nevada Co., Calif. The following data from Bob Hoffman: April 10-12 Much snow, down to 0° F at night. No frogs. April 27-May 2 12" of snow fell Apr 28. No frogs seen. May 6 Report first 2 frogs seen by station. May 17-18 Ample pairs taken in overflow from stream in Kilm Meadow on May 17. Tadpoles (large) with and without hind legs well developed and two very small frogs taken in meadow opposite station. Were in deeper ponds unlikely to freeze solid in the winter. Egg masses were present mixed in Carex stems at pool edge. The mouth part of 3 large tads (one with its hind legs present) are essentially the same as those drawn for their illustrations (RZ 2108, French Joe Meadows, Tulare Co.), except that in the younger Sage Hen larvae a very indistinct 4th lower tooth row is present. The first lower row is complete or narrowly incomplete.
