R. Zweifel 1952 216 Rana boylii Salmon Cr., 2 1/2 mi St. Farnwss, Tulare C., Calif. 2007-2493 R2 April 26 A very rapid-flowing stream averaging about 8' wide, with numerous cascades and pools up to fox 5' deep. Water 8.1°C Digger pine and intense live oak from woodland on the hillsides here, though there is shrubby vegetation (Ceanothus) which reduce the woodland aspect. Alder, cottonwood and willow are along the stream and the banks suggest a thick growth of Artemesia vulgaris and blackberry. The frogs were quite common here. I saw sight and caught five in about 100' of stream. Most were perched on boulders when first seen - some plastered on the side like Hyla cunnelis. They showed their ability to negotiate the rapid current. One when flushed directly into foaming white water jogged up great four feet downstream and creaked out in a rock. The females are gravid.
