Rose and I to Bear Valley where we
tried to get permission to use their
roads into the mountain, but were
told to come back in June when the
snakes would be out.
The region of our route up Cameron
Valley and over Oak Creek Pass is a
tribute to overgrazing. The succession
extends and when the wild-flowers are
gone the aspect must be bleak indeed.
About all there is to relieve the monotony

timber. At the Rogers' Ranch we met
Mr. Jimmy Blake, cousin of Rogers, who
helped run the ranch. We were immediately
granted permission to collect on his land
and to use his road. His hospitality
was put to an immediate test when
we got stuck in a mud hole at the 4500
level and had to hike back 3 miles down
