J. Zweifel 153 Pituophis catenifer connectens For Caballos Camp, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, San Diego Co., Calif. June 25, 1952 In a grassy meadow on the Jeffrey pine front, I was attracted by the scolding of a pair of meadowlarks. I found two gopher snakes at their nest. One snake, a female, had already eaten at least one young meadowlark and was working on another. The other snake, a male, was ignoring the food but trying to mate with the female. This was about 9:30 AM, DST. Later in the afternoon, in a cage, copulation was accomplished. (continued below)* Sweetwater River, 4.7 mi. NNE Descanso, San Diego Co., Calif. June 30, 1952 An adult, found at 10:00 AM (DST) partly in wet mud & partly in a shallow pool. BT 20.8°C, undoubtedly con-hatched by the water. * Seven eggs were laid on August 31st. Size: 65x28mm; 55x27; 53x29; 58x27; 58 x 28 ; 50 x 29 ; 44 x 29
