R. Zweifel April 29, 1936 Diadophis amabilis Cow Flat Creek, 1500', Kern River Canyon, 20 mi ENE Bakersfield, Kern Co., Calif. After kicking againt a small rock pile, I turned back a moment later to see the snake crawling along beside the rock pile. This was beside a small, steep gradient stream about 150 feet from the Kern River. Sycamores, cottonwoods and interior live oaks are present along the stream course but away from the open stream the rocky hillside are rather barren - grass, scattered live oaks and digger pines. Also collected at this locality were Patriochrope, Rana boylii, Ensatina s. san cristobal and Kerbhartus multi- carinatus. Mid-ventral. - Neturus Orange & Cadmium orange Sub-caudal. - Scarlet Dorsal. - closest to Duckby Green-gray SV - 302 mm. (note taken just after abirached) Belly heavily spotted. Ventral color up two dorsal rows. Tips of scales of lowest row tipped with black, those of next row with gray. Upper lip color border fairly well defined above. Neck ring relatively broad, deep orange than belly.
