R. Zweifel Crotalus viridis 122 April 30, 1952 Dawbone Canyon, 2900', 8 mi SW Recorder, Kern County, Calif. In the afternoon a large adult was found crossing the dirt road in the canyon. The dominant plant in the surrounding area is an Altrixley which forms cover about 3 feet high. This is a wide, flat, sandy canyon bottom, not exactly where I would have expected this species of rattlesnake. Tehachapi Creek, 6 mi NW Tehachapi, Kern Co., Calif. May 21, 1952 While hunting frogs along the creek in the afternoon, I nearly stepped on a large adult &. Fortunately the snake was more frightened than aggressive.
