Grafel Oct 21, 1939 Rana boylii muscosa Mud Ck near Big Tujunga Cr, San Gabriel Mtns, So Angles Ca, Calif Stream average 6' wide - some pools up to 3' dep. No frog seen in first 1/2 hour of hunt- ing - finally an adult jumped into the water from a shady gravel bar for ?? definite pool here. Stream 6" deep, gravel bottom. 12:00 Noon. Water 12.6°C, air 1" above edge of stream 16.2°C. Alder, sycamore & cottonwood prominent trees. Stream has rather steep gradient and is close to bedrock. Frog escaped. 12:40 AM - Another adult, a ?, captured under similar circumstances. Stream 4' wide, 10" deep, deeper pool adjacent. This is in a narrow gorge 10' wide with vertical walls of coarse granite rising 30-40' on either side. Frog was first seen on a gravel bar. Air at 3' - 20°C; 1" above stream edge, 17.4°C; water 12.6°C.
