Rana boylii boylii Frogs collected between April 26 and May 1 A total of 30 frogs were obtained at the following localities: 8.5 mi NW Woodlake, Tulare Co. (2); 8.7 mi ENG Springville, Tulare Co. (7); Camp Wishon, Tulare Co. (1); 5 mi ENE Springville, Tulare Co. (5); Cow Flat Creek, Kern River Canyon, Kern Co. (5); Clear Creek, Hobo Hot Springs (1); Caliente Creek, 6 mi EST Caliente (7); Tschachapi Creek, 6 mi NW Tschachapi (2). On a group, these frogs are all remarkably similar. When in dark phase, the throat markings are large and dark (see drawing on next page). Dark but diffusely bounded dorsal spots are present and the tubia is distinctly barred. The light head stripe is evident when the frog is on dark phase, but scarcely visible in light phase. There is a wash of yellow in the groin and the back of the femur is orange-yellow. This yellow and yellow-orange is seen in two living frogs from Tulare Co (R.b. boylii) which however have no strong black marking in the groin, as seen in the southern Series Frogs (see drawing, next page).
