R. Zweifel Mar. 2, 1959 73 Rana boylii boylii 5.4 mi. E., 4.0 mi. N. Bonsal, in Yuba Co., Calif. In the late afternoon, 10 R. boylii was found along the alder-bordered stream (South Hornt Creek) at an altitude of about 1470'. Prominent vegetation on the hillsides consists of yellow pine, manzanita, cammock and blue oak. Bay is also present. The coloration of the frogs was rather diverse. Notes on eight of them follow: 1) adult ♀.— dorsal spotting very diffuse. D-L folds reddish-brown halfway back. Dorsal color brown, toe tips brown. 2) young adult ♀.— dorsal spotting present but diffuse. D-L folds brick red. Much of same color on upper surface of fore and hindlimbs. 3) adult ♂.— Scarcely any pattern, even on the fibia. Generally light brown over the dorsal surface. 4) young adult ♀.— Whole aspect varied. upper surface of legs, D-L folds and between the folds. Pattern fairly obvious, dark 4 or spots on a red background.
