R. Zweifel June 23, 1952 66 Triturus torosus Boulder CA, 7.5 mi NNW Descanso San Diego Co. Calif. Reached here at about 10:00 AM, DST. Two Tritura were taken immediately and several thus seen which are out of reach. Here the stream is about 20' wide and, at maximum, 1' deep. This is a relatively still region about 60' long with more rapidly moving water on a rocky streamlbed at either end. Water temperature 17.0°C A total of 12 Tritura were collected - 10 to send to Reine and 2 for the native doc. They were very abundant. For example, in the pool from which the last one was collected, there were at once twelve others in sight. Some of the pools in which Tritura were seen are 3 feet deep. There is much more water than last year. At this time last year there were places on the stremlbed with no water at all. Aug: 25, 1952 Rereited some spot, but no salamanders. Do they wait for the summer thunderstorms to leave the water? There is as much water now as there was in June.
