P. Zweifel Aneides lugubris 2 mi. NW Calistoga, 610'; Napa Co., Calif. Four of twelve lugubris collected here uttered a mouse-like squeak when handled. This was voluntary on the part of the salamander, and not a physical result of handling, as it was done while the salamander was resting in the open hand.
