From Sonora we drove to Glenville,
Plumas Co., and then to Round Valley
Lake, a reservoir a few miles south of
Glenville. We had been told that there
were "bullfrogs" in the lake, but we
didn't find any. 0.6 mi S Glenville
we investigated a streamside pond
and found in it a large number of
Ambystoma macrodactylum larvae.
Bullfrogs were present here. This is in
the yellow pine-Douglas fir forest.
From Glenville we drove via
Insmile to Maford and the south over
the divide to Lost Chance Cr. Rare
Axylis longi were found here where the
creek flows through a broad, sage-
brush-covered valley. The nearest trees
to the stream are the yellow and
Jeffrey pines bordering the valley, at
the closest 1/6 mile away. Five adult
frog and 23 juveniles were seen.
We returned to Hwy 395 and drove
south to camp just south of Carson City.
