Zweifel May 31, 1952 Journal 49 From Sonora we drove to Glenville, Plumas Co., and then to Round Valley Lake, a reservoir a few miles south of Glenville. We had been told that there were "bullfrogs" in the lake, but we didn't find any. 0.6 mi S Glenville we investigated a streamside pond and found in it a large number of Ambystoma macrodactylum larvae. Bullfrogs were present here. This is in the yellow pine-Douglas fir forest. From Glenville we drove via Insmile to Maford and the south over the divide to Lost Chance Cr. Rare Axylis longi were found here where the creek flows through a broad, sage- brush-covered valley. The nearest trees to the stream are the yellow and Jeffrey pines bordering the valley, at the closest 1/6 mile away. Five adult frog and 23 juveniles were seen. We returned to Hwy 395 and drove south to camp just south of Carson City. June 1, 1952 We had hoped to return to over Elberta or Carson Pass, but both were closed by snow. In a water-filled meadow at Shane Lake near Guthrie Pass, Eldorado Co., there was a strong chorus
