R. Zweifel May 6, 1945 Marin Co., Calif. Phoenix Lake Cloudy, cool. An adult Herpetomaecomes crossing the road had a body temperature of 16.3 °C. 3 mi. WSW Fairfax, on road to Alpine Lake We stayed here for about 1/2 hours, from 12:30 to 2:00 PM. Groovy hillside with madrone, live oak, and bay on the slope. Intermittently cloudy. Many rocks were turned over, but only a single Aneis lugubris was found in this situation. A Diadophis was found under a 2" diameter branch on the ground. Lithobates (both species), Sclerogama, Hydra, and Eumeces whitei were also collected here (see Eumeces account). Alpine Lake This madrone-dominated border and wood forest with a few redwoods, colder than at the previous station. A Leucosoma occidentalis found on the road had a body temperature of 15.4° C.
