R.M.Zink 1978 Journal 21 sept. NW side Shadelake Fresno, Calif., a place I'd seen Fox Sp. today - went to Area Ford ~ 6:30am (T.95 R.25E, S 1/2 sec. 9)- approx 6088ft. + has lots of brush (manzanita, ceanothus, ribes) + assorted small conifers, very little activity - saw 2-3 Fox Sp. Jays, Robin, Bmt Quail (few Ribes today), Hell Jay, Spermophilus, Entomias. The evening (6:30pm to dark ~ 7:45pm) was very still, w/ little moving around. Camped T.95 R.25E, SW sec. 12. 22 sept Returned to area 1/4 mi. E of Elly mito., hunted from 0900-11:30. Fair amount of movement. Coll. 6 Fox Sp. (but 1 brought back alive escaped) + 1 Zonotrichia leucophrys. The morning seemed to be a peak activity period (0900-1030)- was cool, still & clear. There are good sized patches of manzanita (in bloom), white thorn, + a big patch of ceanothus w/ 1'-1 1/2" dia., thistle-like seeds, Ribes + conifers + some oaks.
