R.M. Zink 1978 Journal 26 July cont. Lassen Flk area Shasta California approx T.32N, R5E, 5 1/2 sec.33, SW 1/4 sec.34 + T31N, R5E, sec.3 - along rd 32N12. Stopped & saw several ForSp. but decided to drive on. Entered at West Project Flk lookout station (well worth the drive). From 2m. before the L.O. the area along the rd is fairly dense brush (manzanita + ceanothus) + numerous stndy live conifers. Spent 20 min. at L.O. talking to Forest Service person [illegible] - have excellent view of entire W side, Lassen + adjacent Forest Service lands, but Returned to T.31N, R5E, NE 1/4 sec.2 & call'd for sp. from 1000-1130, Cloudy, cool slight breeze, SSW thread; Also call'd 6 ForSp. 7:30am -8:00pm (see sp. acct). While eating lunch saw a forked 7-to Red Crossbill fly into a pine & call'd. (RM281). The habitat of this area is: [diagram] b) forest 8000' During both trips call'd birds can be heard: 1 lge P Accipiter triator, Flicker, 2ot Yell. Warblers (lot unlitiz + jun moring through brush), 1ot Nashville War - also moving through brush, 5t junc., yt Empidone, [B.t.] Rigea, 5+ Stella Jaz, 2 Toward Solitano
