21 July Beech Summit 6350-6400, Beans Valley Rds.
Ceanothus + several other spp. Hunted for ~20min
& heard from several Fox Sp., Coll. 1 (See sp. acct.), called
under Bob Orange (Quincy) to inform my col.
activities.
22 July 0545 - 0730 hunted this brushy rd & coll. 9 Fox
Sparrows (Lean and Slim), Saw/heard 3 Stelk Jay, 15+ Fox
Pairs M's Quail + several very young quail, Washville Jabs
Sp., Flicker, G.T. Tanager, O.S. Fly, MacG. Wren, Chickadee, Nuttatchee, Lewis Woodpecker.
Returned to Whitehorse capn'd & worked on birds.
23 July 0700 - 0830 hunted the N side of rd (uphill) for
This entire brushy rd is old and burn. There are
some standing dead + live timber. The brush is
very dense & seems to be a greater plant diversity here
than other areas sampled to date. The summit
area is where most of the brush is. There is
a fairly large expanss that I did not get
down below rd. The slope is steep. Left hand
way. But orchard (Jim McMahan) was
in Quincy for ice. Camped peacefully.
24 July Went to Quincy to look for Light's Home in
Red Bluff or Redding so looking during the
Rains, Nth. Drive from Quincy = slow v. intense.
A mid-range w/ few things for much of the 6-7
miles. Camped near Parkville CA.
25 July Returned to driving, Meadow Valley - Brooks
Creek. drove for 2hrs trying to find
water lined trails so I could get out
off! Took several wrong turns.
