The Pass (Ebbetts) is very scenic & a worthwhile drive - however in a VW is best done from the way I went (W->E) as it drops off pretty quickly (wz Pacific Grade). Scene changes notably on E slope - dominant brush seems to be a low sage-1ike [illegible] species, fewer trees or deeper slopes. Markleville has no supplies. Drove to District R.S. in S.Lake Tahoe asked about coll. birds - is full too built up to get a site 30 mi N of previous local so took suggestion of & forests drove Hwy 89 along W side of Lake Tahoe to Kings or Campswood + then took rd west from there: not to scale collected hue [illegible] prickly pear large open area k ~ 2.0 (open) Lake Tahoe Hwy 89 1/3 Simka 1022 I drove 8.3 mi until red [illegible] rough at 6.6 - Powderhorn Cr2, Fire Lake in S.w. at 8.3m. -5:3 on Little Powderhorn Trac (15 B14 (6908'))
