Waked an Otiss + took brief dig in Stanislaus R. Re the rattlesnake - I tried to get it to rattle but it would only assume a defensive posture - his locally, swellling its body by 3/4-1". At 6:00p.m. went further down Stan. islaus Rd [towards Hwy 4] + found another, large brushy area hunted until 8:30 p.m. See catalag for precise location - it located on both sides of the road in the SW'q of sec. 26. The extent is not evident from road, but it's ~1.7 mi. from the Stanislaus R on the Stan. Piva Rd. Saw/heard 6:00p.m.-8:30pm (clear cold still!) Fmallard 1 pond near local bordering wood McQuail 2+ calling Kestrel 1 perched in trees in mixed scrub + conifer ? Hairy woodpe 1 trees West Wood Pewee 2+ 2 chasing ? Steller Jay O.S. Fly 2+ calling, perched large tree Steller Jay 3+ " Mt. Chickadee 3+ " (several calls, ind., "--") Robin 2+ Wet. Bluebird 1+ +trees overmnt R.B. Warthratch 1+ heard Nighthawk 1+? " overhead 8:00p.m. Townsend's Sol. Juvir 1+ in ties along road Bm. Gregea 1+ heard Fox Sparrow 8+ coll.2 13 July 0600-0700 returned to coll. total of yesterday 8:00m. Clear, cold. still. Saw:/heard: 'Townsend's Solitaire', Dipper (along creek), or sign? 2+ O.S. Flycatcher, 2 Mt. Chickadee, 2 Hairy Woodpecker, Western Tan,
