KILLDEER! There was no standing water around that could
see. Drove down (N) Rd 2N89 - grew through burns (there's
a sign at Jtn Cottonwood Rd + 2N89 that says that 12500
acres burned in 1973. Much of the area is bare but there's
varying amounts of brush succession, some grass + meadow
+ considerable stands of standing dead timber. Found some
areas w/ Fox Sparrows but at 3:00pm (hot) there was
little activity. Returned to call local. (T.2N,R.18E,sec.35)
~ 5:30pm. Hunted from 6:00am to 8:15pm. Walked approx 1-2
mi, N of Cottonwood Rd - there's several poorly kept logging rd's
that don't show on Forest Service maps. If this brush
has grown since 1973 it can sure spread rapidly - some
stands of a [illegible]-like brush but we leave 15:00 D
