R.M.Zink 1978 Journal Sierra National Forest, Fresno to California 29 June (cold) sided Touhee (in dense manzanita), towhee sounded like Gray Catbird "meow"; Solitary Vireo - in 40' pine at clearing-singing. Right-Red Flicker MA, Chidake Collected 5 Fox Sparrow. Had some rotten luck of wounding 3 Burd + losing them - dropping rather far dead (ass sure) + couldn't find. Returned to camp ground & worked on birds until ~5:00pm. Then returned to same spot as this am. Saw / heard: 2R-sided Touhee (Cnr. fabled Touhee (dense manzanita), Hornp Wren, Chipping Sparrow (Mt. Quail, 2 Mt. Chidakea, Junco (7 3/4 fledgling), 2 Maz Gill Dabber, 3-4 Yellow Warbler, Weather cold mostly overcast. Returned to campground & worked on birds. Thought I heard a Poorwill - in evening. 30 June Returned to cell locality at 05:45 - clear + cool, calm. Heard Saw : 2 Mt. Quail (Saw 1 male), 2 Rufous-sided Touhee, 2-6 tailed Touche sp # habitat remarks Mt. Quail 2+ brush/grass calling fairly frequently White-tailed Woodpecker 2 center woodland R.S. Flicker 1+ " heard only R-sided Touhee 2+ scrub area + calling - both the buzzy + catbird-like calls Red-bellied Nuthatch 1+? woodland-forest heard only Orn. Creeper 1+? " " " West. Tanager 1+? " " " Junco 5+ " + scrub - 4 fledglings Robin 3+ " " - heard only
