R.M.Zink 1978 Journal Sierra National Forest, Fresno Co., California - SE of Shaver Lake, T. 10S, R. 25E, W¼ sec. 6 28 June spent a.m. in Shaver Lake + Swanson Mdw campgul. In p.m. (12:00-1:30) hiked just NE of Dinkytw Rd (at [illegible]). This T. 10S, R. 25E, N¼sec.4 area is as cut-over forest w/ lots of boulders + brush, especially dense cedarthus + stands of manzanita; trees are sparse, ponderosa sugar pine + cedar + a few scattered oaks or maples. Coll. 6 Fox Sparrows (see sq. acct) + saw 14+ MacGilliv., Wailen, 4+ Yellow Warbler, Chipping Sparrow, O.S.Fly, W. Wood Pewee, Robin, 2+ Junco, w. Tanager, R.B. Mathatch. Returned to camp (Swanson mdw) + spent rest of day working on birds. A round campground SE & NW: W. wood pewee, Rarin, W. St. Tanager, B.H. Greenbeak (0?), 4+ Brewers Bluebird, Staphiro amatum, 4+ Fox sparrows, Robin, Brn. Capercaillie, Mt. Chickadee, 29 June Returned to cell. local (T. S, R. 25E, N½ sec.) from 07:30-09:15 - Overcast + still, and it has been exceptionally cool last 2 weeks; also note heavy snowfall of frostbite. Ice on water levels high - many ridges only have been open for 1-2 wks (!). The plant community here is quite heterogeneous, with patches of dense cedarthus (the prufery kind), manzanita + trees of various sorts (conifer + a few deciduous) + size. There also a fair bit of open ground. So it's nearly impossible to locate precisely the habitat (Elev ~5400', + fairly level), except as hetero- geneous - Saw / heard : Mt. Quail, O.S.Flywatcher, 3-4 W. Wood Pewees, 4+ Yellow Warbler, 4+ MacGilliv., K. wrenbler, 4 Chipping Sparrow, Stellar Jay, 2 Robin, 2+ Junco (see sq acct), w St. Tanager?, 2 Red-tail Mathatch, Rufous-
