Shaver Lake, T. 10S, R. 25E, W¼ sec. 6
28 June
spent a.m. in Shaver Lake + Swanson Mdw campgul. In
p.m. (12:00-1:30) hiked just NE of Dinkytw Rd (at [illegible]). This
T. 10S, R. 25E, N¼sec.4
area is as cut-over forest w/ lots of boulders + brush, especially
dense cedarthus + stands of manzanita; trees are sparse,
ponderosa sugar pine + cedar + a few scattered oaks or maples.
Coll. 6 Fox Sparrows (see sq. acct) + saw 14+ MacGilliv., Wailen,
4+ Yellow Warbler, Chipping Sparrow, O.S.Fly, W. Wood Pewee, Robin, 2+ Junco,
w. Tanager, R.B. Mathatch. Returned to camp (Swanson mdw) + spent

29 June
Returned to cell. local (T. S, R. 25E, N½ sec.) from
07:30-09:15 - Overcast + still, and it has been exceptionally cool
last 2 weeks; also note heavy snowfall of frostbite. Ice on
water levels high - many ridges only have been open for
1-2 wks (!). The plant community here is quite heterogeneous,
with patches of dense cedarthus (the prufery kind),
manzanita + trees of various sorts (conifer + a few
deciduous) + size. There also a fair bit of open ground.
So it's nearly impossible to locate precisely the
habitat (Elev ~5400', + fairly level), except as hetero-
geneous - Saw / heard : Mt. Quail, O.S.Flywatcher,
3-4 W. Wood Pewees, 4+ Yellow Warbler, 4+ MacGilliv., K. wrenbler,
4 Chipping Sparrow, Stellar Jay, 2 Robin, 2+ Junco (see
sq acct), w St. Tanager?, 2 Red-tail Mathatch, Rufous-
