We drove to locality that Don Strange hunted last year (1 1/4 mi. E Ely Mtn. 2040m). There is a lot of chaparral, incl. extensive patches of Ceanothus leucodermis, Arctostaphylos and Castanopsis sempervirens. There is a mixture of brush-forest to forest (Pinus contorta, ponderosa, lambertiana), Black Oak and Albic. There is a fair amt. (0-30%) of granite exposed, as boulders or flat exposures. We hunted there afternoon & evening. Bird list follows.
7 Oct.
We returned to 1 1/4 mi. E Ely Mtn + coll. from 0800-1100. There was a lot of activity, incl. flocks of Yellow-rumped Warbler, White-crowned Sparrow, Junco, all in a rough "flock". Bird list from 6-7 Oct.:
Golden Eagle 1 ad. high overhead on 6th
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 in open forest
Red-tailed Hawk 1 ad. overhead
Mt. Quail? several brush
