R.M. Zink 1979 Journal 24-27 July (cont) Sugar Hill vicinity, 1850m, Moser G, Calif. Flat, and has 0-58% Pines (6-25') + Abies (6-25'), 0-35% Tobacco bush + 0-38% Prunus (6-15') + this differs from 1/2m: 5 Sugar Hill by the occurrence of Prunus. In the general vicinity of Sugar Hill than are several types of brushy habitats, basically intensoven w/ varying densities of trees. We drove road to Cold Cr. & then followed rd. along Lassen Creek - we found some hillsides essentially dominated by Prunus + some dominated by Sage, plus some stands of Pine Fir. However there weren't any areas w/ more than about 15% Tobacco bush, hence we didn't look too hard for Fox Sparrow. There's a fairly long meadow along Lassen Creek. We therefore spent most of our time in the immediate vicinity of Sugar Hill. There's a nice spring almost at the Sugar Hill 10. Also at Davis Cr. is a small store + gas station. Drove to Alturas evening of 27th. 28 July Drove S from Alturas (2m:5 saw 11 Sandhill Crane) to likely, then turned E drove S past Jess Valley to Patterson Guard Station. I saw no montane chaparral similar to Sugar Hill - only sage aridus (Parkersn, Lodgepole, Abino), vagens + lots of open meadow w/ mule ears. From Patterson G.S. we drove N to Bearcamp Flat. There are some fairly dense shrub
