Sugar Hill vicinity, 1850m, Modoc Co., Calif.
24-27 July we camped ~2 mi. S of Sugar Hll.
[illegible]
Above is a general map (not to scale) of the area hunted 24-27 July. There are several habitats in the vicinity. Much of the area has burned prob. quite awhile ago. There are few <5% snags remaining & the USFS has apparently tried to plant Pines, w/ limited success. There are few old trees but some Pines & Abies. The area 1-2 mi. S of Sugar Hill is comprised of 6-25' Pines 5-50%, 2-6' Tobacco-bush (Eriothamnus) 0-80% + open ground w/ grasses. Thus there's a fair amount of variation - from fairly dense stands of pines to pine/brush-almost woodlot to brush/open ground. In some of the more open areas there is Artemesia, and some other.
