Drove to Alturas [saw Golden Eagle - sec?].
Drove out rd. to Shields Cr. & camped. Saw several
nighthawks at edge of canyon (volcanic site) +
smaller birds on flat above. We heard + saw common
Nighthawk, but several flying low suggested us as
possibly Lesser - but since this is out of their range
we assumed they were Tawny Cormor.
+ many Rock Wren

Drove into Alturas & consulted w/ USFS about
possible Fox Sp. locality. The resident naturalist
on wildlife, species didn't know bird nor of
too much help. We drove to Plum Valley campground
& worked on specimens. Then in evening took rd. to
Sugar Hill, passing 10 miles Fork of Davis R. We
passed a lot of sage covered hills w/ some pinjoint
Pine in ridges; some creeks had willow
growth - but we saw dozen that Lindahl
trapped in 1924 at Eagle Pk. Some hillside
had manzanita. About 3 mi S of Sugar, H/I,
there's an extensive area of brush. We
synchronized out a couple Fox Sp. along rd.
it believed it was + is Castoropsis semipes.
Drove to Sugar Hill C.A - impressive view.

Hunted the brush hillsides 1/2 mi S of Sugar Hill.
In areas w/o trees, the brush seemed less cordoned.
