3-4 mi. E Mineral Mtn, 8400ft, Mono Alpine Grass Calif
17 July
Hunted early a.m. on slope 4 mi. E Mineral Mtn. This area is a mixture of Tobacco brush
4-12' Mt. Mahogany (getting to dense shrubs), Ribes,
+ scattered to grouped Pines (prob. Ponderosa). There
are a fair # of rock outcrops at large boulders. It
is interesting that there are almost mini-islands of
brushy woodland patches of habitat on hillside,
separated by relatively flat sage covered areas.
As you descend, there are more trees + then back
to sage/posture. Bird lists separate. Heard longbox
San Redoma as it moved through pop. San Rafael at noon near
mountain - near stream.
Woodford's vicinity, Alpine Co., Calif.
We drove to S Lake Tahoe for supplies + returned to
Crystal Spring campground. The Pit Hirst coll. local
for Passerella is Woodford vicinity. Stopped at
Indian Creek Reservoir for (free) hot showers - nice flow.

About the only suitable habitat so inconveniently
located. E of Woodfords is some montane chaparral
of manzanita - but on private land of new houses
very close. S of Woodfords + to the W of the road there
appears to be good habitat, but considerably private
land. Also, at this time, the road from Woodfords
to Markleville is completely torn up + the 2 possible
W-leading roads are not obvious from Hwy. I hunted
astony manzanita along main hwy early
a.m. It's fairly steep, but contains sufficient
