R.M. Zink 1979 Journal Trent Canyon, 8250-8400ft., Esmeralda Co. Nevada 9 July (cont) by Emgid, V. Hoot Parra, And, Walt W.C. Spencer Fox Sp. We headed down canyon + on flat segebush, w/ main Hwy, saw 4+ Sage Sparrow, 2 Horned Lark. Saw a DOR Burrowing Owl / 1/2 mi SW of Coaldale. At Coaldale saw 2+ Parson Dometine + Horned Lark. There is a dry (at least today) alkeline marsh w/ remains of salt mine. Saw 1 Lesser Nighthawk, or st flew low over segebush at dusk (on Hwy 85 ~6mi. w from Coaldale). Camped at Walker Lake. Walker Lake (Mineral Co.) to Reno, Nevada 10 July At Walker Lake, 0615-0645: Sand bars at N{ and lake where { 130 White Pelican Walker P. enters} 138 Cormorant (Double-crested) 20+ Calif. Gulls 100 West. Grebes 2 Ruddy Duck ~10 Horn Sp. - perhaps red-jarree 2 Sage Phoebe 4+ Gr. Blue Heron other wtd. herons. 5:00: Continued on to some marshy areas, S of Fallon or Hwy 95 (former site of Carson Lk./sink). Saw: 80+ White S. TB3 80 Bi-n. stilts 40 Avocet 2 Long b. Curlew 2 Semipalmated Plover 10 Kildeer
