R.M. Zink 1974 Journal Trail Canyon, 8300 ft., Eureka Co., Nevada 9 July (cont) feral horses loose in the cany. vicin + that they are responsible for the mess of melons - not the range cattle. The melon ecosystem is apparently quite fragile + the horse really muck it up + the horses are protected by Federal Law. The dominant theme is that those riparian areas along the Edinburg (+ prol. w) canyons/streams are essential to the vast majority of the White Mtn avifauna + probs support the greatest diversity/biomass. Hence these areas deserve attention + protection from feral horses as well as range cattle (which do pollute the streams a bit) mucking up themselves). We departed ~ 2:30pm w/2 live jun, Bilco + headed to Gardn, where we kaygyped them. List of birds seen at 8250-8400 ft., Trail Canyon 7-9 July: Turkey Vulture 2 over canyon Cooper Hawk 1-2
