R.M. Zink 1978 Journal Stanislaus Nat. Forest, Tuolumne Co., California, 25 mi. E of Tuolumne on Cottonwood Rd., 5/08th. 28 May (cont.) Spent several hrs searching the brush for Fox Sp. (saw ~15, coll. 4, see sp, reqt). The soil is loose & siltly. Day was hot w/ sl. breeze. Collected 3 of common shrubs. Entire burn area should be good for Fox Sparrows. 29 May Stanislaus Nat. Forest, Tuolumne Co., California, see my 28 May 25-30 mi E of Tuolumne City ~5/00th (1st mi./hr on Cottonwood Rd.) Drove to Cherry L. & took rd towards Hwy 120 (sign says 24 mi.). Burn area evident for another 5 mi. Stopped 1000-1400 for walk, species saw PIl, Woodpeck., Art. w/86. Chickadees, 1415 - at 7 mi. from Cherry Lake 'burned area fringed by rd. - little undergrowth or brush. At 11.5 - some small open brushy areas (woolly, dense, some grasses) but at 1445 no activity (hot, clear). Next 10 mi., go up + v. windy, some v. steep brushy slope. At 5 mi. from 120 road side rd., open forest w/ patches of brush/scent, Bl-thr. Gray Warbler singing (see sp. acct), Steller's Jays, Cassin's Finch, singing Lark Sparrow, w. Bluebird, RBby os Flycatcher, Nashville warbler, Chipping sp., Goldfinch sp., B-t. Gnateatcher, Bullock's Oriole, ?G.t. Warbler, BH Grosbeaks readily T.V., 22-T. Hawks, 1700 - about 1-2 mi. from 120 - area of fairly dense chaparral w/ some trees & saplings - B.G. Warbler (w/ slight variations from those described today), Swt't Jay. Identified, 51427 T.V., [v. still there], 1725 at Hwy 102, -> Buck Meadows
