R.M.Zink 1979 Journal Wyman Creek, Inyo Co., Calif. 4 July (cont.) willow + Dall 3 Fox Sp. (plus an occasional Song Sparrow). The road is crossed by a stream in several places & this could spell trouble during storms then early spring - also the road is rather rough. At the point where the canyon narrows, the willows become sparse in smaller clumps & "pshhh" at most of them & got no response. The road leaves Wyman Ck. & ascends through the sagebrush giving a spectacular view of the Sierra Nevada + several Mt. ranges in the Great Basin, & Bryce Natl. We got to Hwy 168 after dark & camped a few miles N of this junction. Indian Creek, Esmeralda Co., Nev. 5 July First went to Big Pine for gas + supplies, Saw Black-tailed Sparrows, "Buteo"? Buteotachos?, Cactushead Shrike, Chipping Sparrows on route from Dag Springs to Big Pine + return (+ Horned Lark). Stopped at Lynx to top off gas & headed into E slope of White Mtna. to Indian Creek. Went to Post Meadow, where there's a fine deal of willow + alder. Spent 2 hrs at mid day hunting for Fox Sparrow but saw none. I would have attributed this partially to time of day. However, Larry talked to 2 Forest Service biologists who were returning from a 10 day backpacking trip to study Big Horn Sheeps & said he had seen there only 1 Fox Sparrow in Indian Creek Canyon, but that there were many in Trail Canyon. So we packed up & headed for Trail
