M. Zink 1978 Journal Stanislaus Natl Forest, Tuscumr Ca, California, Calhoun Rd (2030 n: from Tuscon) 28 May (cont) are lots of dead trees standing or a few small patches of live ones. Some areas are bare, others in various stages of succession. At 0905-0940 stop saw: Steller's Juncp, Eutamios sp., Azom Woodpeker, Kestrel, R.B. Rushatch, finches + siskins, singing Sol. vireo (in dead trees along sm. brook), W. Tan. (singing, + ?) several O.S. Flyer, Chipping Sparrow, B.H. Grooteale, Junco, Went to next area and spent 1000-1900. I noticed the first sizable occurrence of low dense brush and saw a Fox Sparrow. This entire burn area should prove valuable. Will need to check catals maps for nearest area that Fox sparrows could have invaded from - thru extent rage of burn. The area is hilly w/ many standing dead + some live trees. There were many birds noted in association with this area: Finches (Horse's conies) were numerous + in sm flocks, singing from dead tree or feeding on ground), Lazuli Bunting - fairly common, O'singing from dead tree, ?? obs. lanying insects, B.H. Groots, W. Bluebird, Acorn Woodp, many O.S. Flycatchers, 2 R.T. Hawks, Chipping Sps, Yellow Warbler (near H.O.), Flicker (down livestands), Warbler, Steller's Junc, Fox Sp. (less sp. Arb), sm. Wren (Hane?), Mac Gill Warblers (singing from death trees), quail (Mt. or Calh.), Eutamios, Scirra griseus, Calif. Gnat Syr, w.Gray Sr.
