Fence lizard 2 under logs No.(?) Alligator " 1 " " Frog (pub. mt/yd.-lygse) several calling Tree frog (?) " " 23 May Berkeley -> Mt. Pinos (+ Kern Ventura Co, Calif.) Left Berkeley ~1100 drove S on I5, saw many Cliff Swallow nests under overpasses, especially 50 mi N + 15 mi S of Kettleman City. Turned West on Hwy 164 & Drove to Maricopa. Then S on 164/33 to Rd going E towards Frazier Park. Then took rd. 9W03 (to NE). Passed through br dry chaparral - open scrub. Saw mockingbirds, Snake, 5 Valley Quail. Rd ascends thru pine to Lockwood Valley. Turned W on U of the Woods to Mt. Pinos. Flushed Capercaillie on rd at Spring at ~7000'. Mt. Pinos, Ventura Co, Calif. 24 May Drove to end of pavement where a sign says 3 mi to summit Mt. Pinos. Spent 0705-0740 recording Fox Sparrows. Very easy to approach & record - 5 put nests.
