(7N, R.94y SW) sec. 3[?] 1020m. 31 March Gr., Humel Dule + one probale Scrcech Owl, See 1 April for furth description of area. 1 April Up 0545, Set 2 nets in chaparral. This area consists of hilly terrain, often steep to mountainous. The vegetation is chaparral, chaparral + oaks + some trees or stands of coniferous forest. The chaparral consists of Manzanita (1'-8'), (35-40%) Ceanothus <10% 40% Bazzania? + ?. Cold a.m. (<40 deg F) & warmel from Deep Lake Valley w/ small oaks stream ~980m chaparral 3 redwoods planted in 1914 " underdeveloped 920m " campsite " ---> 1.0 mi. to Elk mtn. Rd. No.2 To ~68 deg F, By 21:00pm there was a cloud bank coming in from NE. Lots of bird activity early but trailed off. Drove ~3-4 mi., On No.2 + took two side roads. Some nice stands of chaparral in pockets (+ reds) as the area p/d Elk Mtn. was burned some time ago. Played Peterson Fox Sparrow tape at some likely spots but got no response (see locality of one margarita patch for detail [illegible] 1979[?]). Returned to morning site + prepared lunch. Then, via did see 4-5 Fox Sp., got 2 in our shot, but only saw one
